Kaufman Lynn Construction was recently honored with an Excellence in Construction award by the Associated Builders and Contractors Florida Gulf Coast Chapter (ABC) during a ceremony held on Friday, May 5, at the Downtown Tampa Hilton. Kaufman Lynn Construction’s entry, Moorings Park at Grey Oaks in Naples, Florida, was recognized with an “Eagle Award” (the highest recognition) in the residential category.
The Excellence in Construction awards program is the industry’s leading competition that honors both general and specialty contractors for innovative and high-quality construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from along Florida’s west coast, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.
“We’re incredibly humbled to be honored by both our industry professionals and peers at Associated Builder and Contractors,” said Michael Kaufman, president and CEO of Kaufman Lynn Construction. “Our project team went above and beyond to surpass client expectations and please the new residents and I am incredibly proud of them. Not only did they build to the highest quality standards, but every phase was completed within the time frame and every building achieved LEED Silver Certification.”
Moorings Park at Grey Oaks is a new Continuing Care Retirement Community in Southwest Florida. Kaufman Lynn Construction provided preconstruction and construction management services for the independent living component that included the new construction of 12 residential buildings and site development. The 480-square-foot project was completed a full month ahead of schedule.
Each building features four residential floors over structured parking. The project encompassed 96 independent living units of approximately 3,000 square feet each. Apartments included a gallery hallway, dining and breakfast areas, a gourmet island kitchen, and a covered lanai with conversation and dining areas and an outdoor kitchen. Interiors featured high-end building material and finishes, almost all of which were customizable by the residents so that no two units were the same.
Site work included three 80,000-square-foot gardens connected by a central pedestrian and golf cart corridor lined with royal palm trees. The central focus of the Aqua Garden is a 30-by-50-foot European vanishing edge swimming pool flanked by reflective linear water features. The Jasmin Gardens feature a variety of fragrant plantings surrounding a multitiered tropical water feature. A multipurpose lawn area with finely textured grasses and a central arbor are the focal point of the Veridian Gardens, designed to host a variety of activities including bocce ball and lawn bowling.
All subcontractors were pre-qualified by Kaufman Lynn Construction and were invited to bid on the project based on their merit. Subcontractors with excellent safety records were individually interviewed to determine their level of experience and quality of work relevant to this project.
Added Kaufman, “The achievements of our Moorings Park at Grey Oaks project built a stronger relationship with the city and community, establishing a solid foundation for Kaufman Lynn Construction on Florida’s west coast, making this project a success on all fronts.”
