As in previous years, the children of Kaufman Lynn Construction employees took over the office for a day, learning about all the different aspects of construction management. Of course, the best part of the day was a tour of current and recently completed jobsites. After all, not many kids can say they got to test out the stage of a Jazz club before its grand opening.

After eight months of construction, the New Port Richey Surgery Center at Trinity moved into its new location earlier this year, occupying most of the first floor of the medical arts building adjacent to the Medical Center of Trinity. The new facility offers four operating rooms and two treatment rooms, pre-op and recovery areas on nearly 17,000 square feet, almost doubling the center’s original space.

One of four operating rooms at the recently completed New Port Richey Surgery Center at Trinity

In addition to preconstruction and construction services, Kaufman Lynn Construction – Healthcare Division facilitated the move of equipment from the original surgery center to the new surgery center. To avoid downtime, the move occurred over a two day period December 28 and 29. Construction staff remained on site for the first month of operation to monitor that all systems function properly and to assist surgery center staff as they familiarize themselves with the new facility.

The surgery center is operated by HCA – Hospital Corporation of America, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. “The Kaufman Lynn Construction – Healthcare Division team did a superb job in managing all aspects of the construction project,” declared Mark Worsham, Director of Design and Construction for the HCA Ambulatory Surgery Division and continues, “Everyone on the construction team was helpful, knowledgeable and always professional.”

Announced in the February 11, 2013 edition of the magazine, the search for the “Best of the Best” started eight months earlier with competitions in nine regions. Out of nearly 1,000 nominations submitted, 19 projects rose as the most outstanding construction efforts completed in the U.S. and Puerto Rico between July 2011 and June 2012. Projects were judged on teamwork, success in overcoming challenges, innovation and quality.
