Miami's largest non-profit historic preservation organization recognizes Kaufman Lynn Construction for outstanding work in the recent restoration of the Freedom Tower

In an award ceremony on Friday evening, Dade Heritage Trust, Miami’s largest non-profit historic preservation organization, honored the recent Freedom Tower restoration project as an outstanding achievement in the conservation of Florida’s historic resources. Provost Rolando Montoya, Patrick Rebull, Murrell Perry and Ben Baffer accepted the award on behalf of Miami Dade College and Kaufman Lynn Construction.

The Kaufman Lynn Construciton team fixed up the playground adding mulch and sod, spruced up the entry to the building with some beautiful new landscaping and flowers, pressure cleaned the exterior covered walkways, pressure cleaned the playground toys and worked inside one of the classrooms preparing for an upcoming paint job.   The Easter Seals staff and Director were very appreciative and thankful.

Easter Seals provides exceptional services to ensure that all people with disabilities or special needs and their families have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play in their communities.

shared with attendees of the “Rediscovering Downtown Miami: Tapping the Value of Historic Buildings” program. Kaufman Lynn Construction was the Tile Sponsor of the event which was organized by the Urban Land Institute and the Miami Downtown Development Authority. After learning to recognize and tap the value of historic properties from a panel of experts, attendees were invited to a guided tour of the Freedom Tower, which was recently restored by Kaufman Lynn Construction. Max pieced together any salvageable elements and hand sculpted the missing pieces to recreate the original ornate gilded column capitols in the Freedom Tower ballroom. The Miami Freedom Tower is one of only 6 designated National Historic Landmarks in South Florida, and all work had to be done to meet the exacting standards of the City of Miami Dept. of Historic Preservation and the US Department of Interior Secretary’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.

Congratulations as well to Dominic Licari with All American Windows and Doors and Vergil Smith of Smith and Sons who were recognized for Glass and Glazing and Painting on the Freedom Tower Restoration as well as Heather Nighman, Southeastern Surfaces & Equipment who was recognized for the flooring work on the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church & School Gymnasium project.

The word Soroptimist is derived from Latin words meaning “women” and “the best.” Soroptimist literally means “BEST FOR WOMEN.” Soroptimist International was formed in 1921 in Oakland, California and today has over 40,000 members within 1,434 clubs spread out worldwide in 19 countries. The local Soroptimist club of Boca Raton-Deerfield Beach was founded in 1960.

The project is funded through an Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). All major components of the system are manufactured in the United States. In addition to reducing the City’s energy consumption and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the project will also create jobs for local engineers, electricians and roofers among others.

A solar monitoring system will display real time data on a monitor in a public area of the Public Works Facility, and will be used as a tool in the City’s efforts to promote energy efficiency and conservation to the general public through education and outreach.

Construction of the project is anticipated to start in November 2011 and be completed by the end of the year. Kaufman Lynn Construction built the Public Works facility which was completed in September 2007.

Stephen Haskins, Chief Financial Officer at Kaufman Lynn Construction, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Hospice By The Sea Foundation. Established in 2008, the foundation is the philanthropic arm of Hospice By The Sea, a not-for-profit, community-based provider of hospice care, palliative care, caregiver support, bereavement counseling and home health agency services throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Haskins and his fellow board members will direct fundraising efforts in support of the mission and vision of Hospice by the Sea. Funds raised by the foundation offset the cost of patient and family services not reimbursed by insurance providers, enable facility renovation and construction projects and support overall operations.

Boca Raton, FL – On Friday, August 12, 2011 members of the Kaufman Lynn Construction Positive Workplace Committee, delivered 40 fully “stuffed” backpacks to the two graduating classes of five-year olds the Florence Fuller Child Development Center in Boca Raton, assuring that these children would start kindergarten with all the supplies necessary.

For the fifth year, employees of Kaufman Lynn Construction donated backpacks and school supplies for children attending the Florence Fuller Child Development Center in Boca Raton. Florence Fuller Child Development Centers, Inc. is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit offering affordable childcare, quality preschool, enriched afterschool and summer camp for low-income families.

Residents of North Miami and neighboring cities attend a Kaufman Lynn Construction sponsored "Back to Work" job fair.

North Miami residents had an opportunity to interview for various positions on the project (from laborers to plumbers, electricians, equipment operators, etc) with our Pepper Park team as well as subcontractors who will be on the project. Others were able to meet with representatives from a staffing agency for a variety of job opportunities.
